REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Minister of Employment (Wamenaker) Afriansyah Noor said that as many as 20,000 university graduates started participating in the national internship program to expand career opportunities and bridge them with the world of work.

“In this first phase there are about 20,000 people graduating from college. They will undergo a national internship program for six months, starting today, October 15 to April 15, 2026,” said Afriansyah Noor during the 12th Convention & International Conference Paptekindo 2025 in Padang, West Sumatra, Wednesday (15/10/2025).

Wamenaker said the national internship program is a vocational training that implements project-based learning on a national scale, as well as being part of a national productivity improvement movement.

“If the desire or animo of graduates to join the program continues to increase, we are also preparing a second phase for 80,000 more graduates,” he said.

In general, he believes that vocational education and training are the main bridge to Indonesia's superior human resources and global competitiveness.

This concerns not only the improvement of technical competence, but also the formation of a productive, innovative, and adaptive character to technological change and industrial needs.

“This is also as enshrined in Law No. 13 of 2003 on Employment,” he said.

In this context, the President Prabowo Subianto has published a policy through Presidential Regulation No. 68 of 2022 on the Revitalization of Vocational Education and Vocational Training, which aims to improve the quality of human resources through vocational education relevant to the needs of the labor market.

“So the industrial relationship with education is very strong and important, so the government continues to strengthen the national vocational ecosystem through strategic programs,” he added.
